What We Do

Advocacy

We provide programs that support the well-being of those impacted by violence by creating opportunities for healing and transformation. The most common types of violence we work with are hate violence and intimate partner violence; we also receive reports of sexual assault, police misconduct, homelessness, HIV-motivated violence and acts of random violence.  Our programs include advocacy-based counseling, support groups, safety and support planning, basic legal advocacy, resources and referrals, how to help workshops for friends/family, and accompaniment.  Click here for more information on these services.

Training and Education

We train community organizations, victim advocates, shelter staff, healthcare workers, school staff, and other service providers who work with survivors of violence to increase accessibility, capacity, accountability, and to facilitate institutional and cultural shifts within organizations towards LGBTQ inclusivity. Trainings focus on the dynamics of the types of violence that affect our community, and the specific needs of LGBTQ people. Click here for training descriptions.

SOL provides technical assistance to support agencies in creating LGBTQ inclusive policies and practices.

Because we recognize the importance of developing leadership and building power within LGBTQ communities, SOL also offers workshops and community events for the LGBTQ community and our allies about the basics of community organizing, safer dating and hooking up, creating community based responses to violence, and other issues related to safety and violence.

Buried Seedz of Resistance

We are a youth-led project working to build community power to break cycles of violence affecting LGBTQ young people. Using strategies of community organizing, arts & media, action research and direct action we spark dialogue, educate and empower youth to take action. We continue to build a base of youth leaders locally and nationally who are committed to fighting for safety and justice in our lives, families and communities.
